An animal\u2019s body temperature is typically between 100 to 102.2 degrees, and signs of heatstroke in pets can start to surface when a pet\u2019s body temperature tops 102.2 degrees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Any pet can experience the dangerous effects of heatstroke, but some pets are more prone than others, including the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eastsacvet.com\/blog\/ways-to-help-deal-with-pet-obesity\/\">Overweight dogs<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eastsacvet.com\/blog\/aging-gracefully-senior-pet-care-and-health\/\">Senior dogs<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dogs with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eastsacvet.com\/blog\/common-health-issues-in-aging-pets\/\">chronic health conditions<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Brachycephalic breeds such as pugs and bulldogs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Recognize Heatstroke in Pets&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Dogs have their own strategies for keeping their cool, mainly sweating through their paw pads and noses, and panting profusely, but it\u2019s not enough when temperatures soar.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What does heatstroke for pets look like? Watch for these symptoms:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Rapid respiration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pale, dry gums<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Excessive panting or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eastsacvet.com\/blog\/why-do-dogs-drool\/\">drooling<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Trouble breathing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Insatiable thirst<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Weakness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lack of coordination<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vomiting\/diarrhea<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Glazed eyes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Seizure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sudden collapse<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These signs of heatstroke in pets signal a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eastsacvet.com\/blog\/would-you-know-a-pet-emergency-if-you-saw-one\/\">veterinary emergency<\/a>.
